[OCtober] Is this what you are?
skskdk this theme of toys started so cute and now I'm ending it on a downer pfft-Edelweiss gets a jellycat elephant! ^-^

Okay see I was going to write off a jellycat for Edie because I couldn't see any world in which xir parents would be able to get xim one, but then the idea popped into my head:
What if Edie stole it?
And oughhh it's so tasty and I feel like it lets me explore these dimensions of xir character that weren't solidly there before! Edelweiss was always a bit of an outsider to xir village, and xe definitely struggled to control xir anger pre-20s, but I think it's so interesting to have one specific instance and idea of the way xe has acted out across the years.
Especially since Edel has such a strong moral code in the present story, it's so fun to contrast that with the memory of a kid who stole -- not to make xir stomach stop growling, not to make someone else happy, but -- purely for xir own selfish desire.
And like, isn't it sad for a kid to steal a toy? In a perfect world, every kid would have their own, right?
But also, no one is entitled to something 'luxurious' (for lack of a better word) like a jellycat either -- what does it say about someone who would take whatever xe wanted? And how did Edel even steal the jellycat? Was it from a toymaker's workshop? Was it from another kid's school bag?
And I'm just imagining this little kid with no friends and unwelcomed parents sniffling and begrudgingly giving back the toy xe really wanted, shamed into saying "sorry" and that xe'd "never do it again". And xe shouldn't have done it, xe knows that, but xe seemingly can't have anything and no one likes xim and it doesn't matter if xe tries to be good because all xe'd ever be is a 'bad kid' so why does it matter if xe does things like this?
And ohh I can't help it, I'm emotional over this boy who shouldn't have stolen a toy :(Oct 18, 2026
