Lily of the Valley

Continuing my Deathly Beautiful series with a very lovely yet infamous flower: lily of the valley! 🤍 These beautiful plants bloom these unassuming bell flowers that are used in gardens and even bridal bouquets. They've been mentioned in mythology and the Bible. Historically, they symbolized chastity, motherhood, humility, purity, and sweetness. Inclusively, it has been used in folk medicine as early as the 15th century to treat heart conditions. Modern medicine still uses its compound: convallatoxin, but in small quantities.

However, despite all these positive traits, eating the plant itself can cause severe illness, mainly heart conditions such as fainting, arrhythmia, and blood clotting. It affects the rest of the body, though. Other symptoms include skin irritation, nausea, loss of appetite, confusion, headache, visual disturbances, and death. Like Oleander, it even can cause Depression.

Goes to show how even the sweetest, most innocent-looking flower can be dangerous. It's not the rose! The next flower won't be white, I promise XD Though I really love how the white flowers—associated with purity and harmlessness most of the time— are the poisonous ones. It's quite ironic, isn't it?

Ooohhh this is my sister’s favorite flower!! But since they’re so toxic, she prefers regular lilies over lilies of the valley 😅 sad to say that regular lilies are toxic to cats so we pay close attention whenever we get bouquets for special occasions.
I love the fun facts as well about the flower! It’s super interesting 😊

Luke 12:27
Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

It is ironic - and yet proven again and again in nature - that beauty often conceals danger. Then again, this is why I eat meat. Plants will kill you 🤣
