Jekyll and Hyde
I’m randomly on a Monster High kick and decided to do a redesign of Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde
Jackson’s canon design was honestly pretty good to begin with, one of the better boy designs alongside Deuce. Holt, I can take or leave, some of the decisions such as the blue skin feel like they were done mostly to differentiate him from Heath, which I don’t feel any particular way about. There’s not many visual clues pointing to the fact that they’re technically the same person, tho, which I think would’ve been a cool thing to play around with. So that’s what I did with my redesign!!
I really went in on the emo angle with Jackson’s design and I honestly can’t remember why, I think it was the dyed fringe and also I saw someone say he was emo so I just went with it
I gave him a hat because I think it fits his personality, he tries to sort of disappear into the crowd at Monster High. I think he maybe chose an older style to create some plausible ambiguity about whether he’s human or not (does he count as human given the whole monster alter ego thing?)As for Holt, I made his color palette more purple and pink rather than blue and red/orange to distinguish him further from Heath but also to nail that rave aesthetic. I really had fun researching rave fashion!! I gave him (prescription!!) sunglasses because I think it makes him seem just a littleee bit more human, and I think that honors his other half very well. Also apparently the yin and yang symbol is popular in rave culture, which is very apt because Jackson/Holt already have preexisting ties to that symbol (it’s in their room in the webisodes and also on the doll/Jackson’s doll as a hidden detail tattoo!! Super cool!!).
Jackson is wearing wireless earbuds btw. He needs to protect his peace.
I’ll be working on more MH redesigns ig, I’ve got lots of ideas! I’m thinking Twyla or Frankie next :) (can’t make any promises, though
