How draw realistic ppl??this does not even look like the same person
and i cant draw realism, not humans anyway.
Started this mid-December?
I feel like it looked worse and worse the further i got on the shading (bc wips and sketches always look better than the finished result..) and the proportions just became worse as well, no matter how i tried to get it right before shading (had to redraw stuff when i continued weeks later, like moving the eyes further up and make them smaller), and tried to keep it the same but somehow the nose got wider, chin shorter or something idk some features just looks so different now compared to earlier in the process?? Just hard once you start blending stuff to keep tracks of the lines maybe? I only have a very big blending stump so maybe i should get some smaller sizes⦠but I think the overall shading just looks good afar and not up-close.
At some point i was about to tap the paper to undo after accidentally making some pencil marks i didnt mean to⦠so guess Iām a real digital artist now
lol , was a bummer then to instead have to pick up my eraser to try and fix it tho
also black is actually the hardest to do in pencil, i gave up on the hair and his shirt⦠tried to get some depth there but just wanted it to be finished, and so much easier to āhideā the paper texture with lighter tones the darker ones makes the paper texture so obvious.
Anyway i feel like the realistic one ended up very unbalanced like his top half of his face is bigger scale than the lower half? Or the head is too small for his face? Idk what but something looks wrong :| his eyes are too far apart? and thatās why i hate drawing realism bc things have to look āperfectā while with stylized ypur brain can like make do looking at less realistic/correct anatomy and features, and it looks fine (sometimes)
also everything looks so wonky probably bc iām not used to drawing this big anymore and also donāt do grid or guide lines (i have some guide lines i always do automatically/by muscle memory (when drawing in my style) but i dont really follow them i mostly draw by eye⦠is that an expression in English too? Free-hand stuff) but yeah i just never liked using grid method, could never make it work for me or get used to it when having to use it in school and stuff, ends up looking weird anyways so i just stick to my usual methods
I had so many different refs for the realistic one but used a lot of the same person and maybe it ended up looking too much like this actor bc this is not Ant anymore :P
so I can only think of this actor whoās name escapes me rn as Jasper from The 100 but most of the refs i used were of Rodrick from Diary of a wimpy kid (that iāve never watched) not saying that would be my face claim/casting for Ant, just used random rodrick sceenshots i found on pinterest for this, among other ppl that looked more like how i would imagine Ant realistically (heās also natrually blond so his features in general would be lighter like both skin and lashes probably (compared to that actor))
i tried to find as many refs i could that were similar enough head/face shape, nose and chin etc. as what Ant has in my style or how I draw him; like i might give him a broader or more squarish face than other ocs or the fact he has a butt chin lol. But yea ended up mostly using Rodrick instead and also some features mightāve been butchered when i blended out the shadows idk.
Maybe i should make him a realistic design.. and redraw this, bc i feel like this is not him or what he would look like AT ALL
But fun challenge!
Also his hairstyle or just bangs in general was so hard to find refs of that arenāt curtain or swept to one side ā i know i make my ocs have very anime style hair? but still thought kpop or asian hairstyles would help but nope
So actually I donāt hate this even if i find realism hard to do and think that half looks weird, but a bit over it now that itās been a day or two; I had very fun with this actually! Might not sound like it since i complain a lot
but i did have fun, I really want to get more into graphite pencils iāve mentioned it several times before. Just ended up different than what i wanted, and it was supposed to look like the same person so idk just very hard to do when i dont have a face claim for him - mightāve been happier with the result if i did? maybe?? but i dont usually do face or voice claims or anything for my ocs

Hey this is pretty good! The blending is smooth and the realistic version looks like you can imagine it in-person.
I have the same feeling about drawing realism that it has to be "perfect" in many ways. Stylised allows for some mistakes to be hidden, haha. You could always make another to be accurate to how you imagine him in mind, but this is already cool to see!

ā¢Hey , you did a great job in the realistic portrait too. It looks like a stylized animated character
ā¢
ā¢I get that, my sketches sometimes don't translate to my realistic style, so I have to literally change some features and it ends up looking more like it even though it's different. :o but this looks amazing! I'm glad that you ended up liking it after a day or two, because it's so well done! The shading is really nice, and for directly translating the features into realism, it doesn't really look uncanny. This is so cool! Always love reading the whole thought process too.

ā¢Think this worked out really well! Ofc idk how you imagening him, but from outside this turned out good! I really like how you managed to capture the eyes

ā¢
ā¢I think itās pretty neat and oddly impressive you managed to get that amount of realism with that facial structure.
ā¢
ā¢This is literally SO amazing OMG. I think he looks so real and I can so tell the stylized version is also him, at least to my eye! He looks like a real dude like wow! Also lol at the ātap the paper to undoā
