Character Randomizer: ElliasMeet Ellias, the woolly aphid-based centaur!
I got the traits: genderfluid, dull colored eyes, antennae, -taur body, canine tail, and disability aid.
And here is my thought process in creating this character design:
First, my eyes were drawn to the centaur body, the canine tail, and the antennae. I thought about a canine body but decided against it due to the antennae. The first idea I had was a canine-taur who is a sci-fi nerd. Instead, I ran with the antennae and taur body.
So I had a fluffy tail, a bug body and antennae. I started looking up fluffy bugs. There were the obvious ones like bees, moths, and caterpillars, however know of those bugs have tails. Looking further I found woolly aphids and red velvet ants. The woolly aphid appealed to me more due to the wings and their adorable appearance.
Second, I looked up a bunch of woolly aphid reference images. I also looked up references for the basic aphid body shape. I started to draw in my regular style at first. Then I decided I preferred a cuter, chibi style for this character specifically. I just wanted a cute fuzz ball baby. For the disability aid, I decided to go with a cast/brace type thing on one of the wings. My first thought was a wheelchair when I got the trait disability aid, however I wasn't quite sure how to work that out with the taur body, so I compromised.
Finally, when I had sketched it out and lined, I used a color palette generator and adjusted the hue to fit the green and white I was looking for. Sometimes I try multiple palettes in a messy test layer just to see which one I prefer. For Ellias, I already had an idea in mind so there wasn't much debate.
As you can see, I didn't use all the traits exactly as they were described in the prompts. I took inspiration from the prompts I had to further expand on ideas and make something more unique and individual. There are so many wonderful ideas to be had that are blocked by our own concept of what oc creation should look like. And honestly it doesn't have to be this deep. Say you draw all your prompts and along the way you veer off the side into something completely unrelated, then this randomizer has done it's job, inspiring creativity!!
I hope you have fun with your creation! Thank you so much!May 12, 2024
