You have free interpretation for these characters. Canonically, they have multiple forms and powers and many of my OCs see them in a different personal way.
Basically you can change everything! From specie, race, age, clothes, gender, personality, etc. Just try to keep these particular details: the eyes, the teeth and the black and white colors
Just have fun. Don't stress too much
