sea wizards

My made up underwater wizard civilisation based on ancient ammonoids
This took longer than I expected (14hrs
), but it was worth getting these out since they’ve been bobbling around my head since late last year
Essentially they are a species who develop naturally spiralling shells that intrinsically ties them to the magic of the world (which is based in spirals), giving them innate power and seemingly mysterious wisdom.
I’m slowly developing some more lore, but if you’ve seen my other art/characters, these guys belong to the same world as Kieran the Harpy and Kuga.Apr 26, 2026

•This reminds me of a school project I did about a million years ago for a paleontology class. Everyone had to do a poster collage devoted to whichever subject they were assigned. Mine was the Devonian mass extinction. Amongst different pictures and article clippings, the centerpiece was a drawing I did of a very detailed ammonoid shell; only it was not an ammonoid protruding from the shell, but the body of dead Kenny from South Park
. South Park was in its first or second season at that time, so all the students were just dying laughing, and the teacher had no idea who Kenny was, but was crazy excited that someone in the class had actually put in the effort to draw something. So he ended up keeping the poster, which was fine, but I really wish in hindsight that I had taken a pic of the dead Kenny ammonoid.
