“His name is Byron, and he tames the shadows.”Hopefully im not too late to the party heh..
There’s a lot to read here, you have been warned oooh~
__
Byron Morn. 3 years into the academy and still going. This quiet, kinda grumpy, lil dude has been lurking in the shadows (hah) and taking the backseat with zeal. Preferring his shadow puppet animals over real people, Byron has built a bond with each creature he summons, but this has left a bit of a gap in his (people) social skills.
Byron’s power is Umbra Animalis, which uses the combination of:
Hand Shapes:
-Hand shapes will determine which creature is summoned from its shadow. Byron is still adding to his mental library of shadow puppets, and can create quite a few animals at this point (his favourite are the double dogs).
-Byron must be accurate with his depictions, or deformed summons will follow.
Lighting:
-The size of the light will determine the size of the creature; larger size, larger animal.
-The brightness of the light will determine the strength of the creature; more light means more power.
The sun at high noon would be the apex of his ability, being able to increase the Umbra Animalis’ size, strength, and longevity. He carries a torch around for a quick, on-the-go source of light. This will still summon a shadow creature, but just not as powerful.
Drawbacks:
-Byron must use his hands to create the creatures
-Byron’s bond with each creature determines his control over them. “Untamed” shadows will be more unruly in nature, especially if they haven’t been summoned before. It is ultimately up to the creature to trust him.
-The longer the Umbra Animalis stays in another shadow, they’ll weaken and be consumed by the natural shadow around them (They can heal by being pulled back into his hand and left to rest for a while, but cannot use his ability during)
-But if fully dissolved, the creature dies, and can never be summoned again. This has left Byron to be extremely careful and attached to his creatures.
Bonus fact: He has named each of his shadow creatures. Every single one. Even the ones he hasn’t summoned yet

If you’ve read this far, Thank you very much (also very sorry ;-;) Can’t wait to see where this world goes

I'm so so so so so so so sorry for the super late analysis

Been trying to reach both the older and newer entries at the same time and it's chaos

But less about me and more about Byron!!

First of all, I FREAKING LOVE HIS VIBE!!

Despite lacking social skills one can really see how much he adores his shadow animal friends here, with all the expressions full of emotion and this really cool feeling of deep trust you managed to portray

It's super cute and makes Byron look so lovabled I really wanna hug him

(also the way you designed the shadow animals is so cool??!?
)
Byron's power is also amazing and I really appreciate the fact that you gave him such a could-be OP power but immediately cut that route's course by having Byron need to know how to control each shadow individually and mostly keep to the ones he already knows, which makes a lot of sense

Also the fact that a shadow creature can die and that means it can't be summoned again is another great drawback

+ the fact that they must originate from real shadows, instead of just showing up, thus making Byron having to carry a light with him!! You honestly thought about everything, I see

Once again, I'm really sorry for the late reply, but WELCOME TO CIPHER ACADEMY!!

•Was scrolling through the CA tag, and stumbled on this guy! Such an awesome character design and power, it's super creative! The fact that he has to tame the creatures and take extra care of them is a really cool concept! ^^
(the important question, however, is whether the creatures can be pet

•Notes on the side:
I actually thought of his power a while back and had used it on an old oc >->
Also different style for this one, and done digitally!! (Kinda was like “ I have no idea what I’m doing but heyy” ;D )
I might post some detail shots later if they don’t appear well in the full one
