Art Process!Thought i'd use this piece for this ^^
I put some notes on the image itself but i dont know how easy it's gonna be to read (sobs in bad handwriting) so I'll sum them up here!
Sketch: the sketch is pretty simple, i just block out the basic pose and then add details over that and erase some parts to reduce the clutter if i have to.
Lineart: I take my time with this part but im usually pretty impatient (although my hands were so shakey while i was lining this it took so long
). I like to use dark colours instead of black for the lines.
Flat colours: gradients are my best friend y'all lmao. I kinda just pick and choose colours from ones i have saved and just hope it works out lol. I also keep all my flat colours in their own folder so i can clip the shading to the folder!
Shading + Highlights: i generally use two layers of shading when i do cell shading. Layer one in this case has the same gradient as the background and i just filled the whole image and cut out parts that the light hit. Layer two is purple and i only used it in the darker parts of the image. Both of these layers are set to multiply and i mess with the opacity until im satisfied. For highlights i used the marker tool on sai and ill usually just choose a colour based on the environment. This layer is set to shine and i once again mess with the opactity till i like it.
The white outlines: for the initial white outline i select around the parts i want to be outlined (in this case i selected the empty parts of the circle) and then i invert and expand the selection and fill it (make sure its under the layers you want to show). After that i draw in additional white lines where i think they would look good (keeping in mind what i want the viewer to be drawn to most). And then i add eye shines! :3
Thats pretty much it lol
Sorry if that was a lot to read and thanks to anyone who did read it (a special thanks to anyone who tried to read my terrible handwritting lol)May 24, 2021
